RTÉ programme examines baby deaths at maternity hospital

An RTÉ investigation is claiming a hospital maternity unit failed to fully implement recommendations that might have saved babies’ lives.

A special Prime Time programme to be screened on RTÉ One tonight will reveal details of an investigation into the deaths of babies over a six-year period in the Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise, Co Laois.

The babies were alive at the onset of labour, but died either during the labour, or within seven days of birth.
