The Government has ruled out a negotiation on a new national wage agreement saying it believes a deal is not “feasible or desirable”.

Earlier this month, Danny McCoy, the director general of employers’ body Ibec, admitted that a case was starting to develop around the “conditions” for a new national pay deal.

He also acknowledged that there was a growing, pent-up frustration among workers that they are not sharing in the economic recovery through increases in their take-home pay.
