A survey of board members and CEOs in the charity and not-for-profit sector found widespread dissatisfaction with the general lack of oversight, particularly in the absence of a charities regulator.

The research, carried out by the Institute of Directors, found that 83% favoured the introduction of a mandatory code of governance, while four in five want to see a more formal and transparent process of appointment to the boards of charities.
