Ombudsman seeks to probe nursing home complaints

Newly appointed Ombudsman Peter Tyndall has called for new powers to investigate complaints about nursing homes, social housing, phone services, and energy suppliers.

There is a “significant omission” in current legislation which prevents his office investigating areas like nursing homes which received substantial public funds, he said.

In an interview with the Irish Examiner — his first since taking office — Mr Tyndall also said he wanted to introduce a common complaints handling system for all public bodies in order to help reduce waste and costs.
