Schools with book schemes excluded from €15m grant

Schools which have just started partial book rental schemes will be from a €15m start-up grant along with those which have run them for years.

Education Minister Ruairi Quinn is providing the money to help primary schools with no existing scheme to buy a stock of books to start one.

However, while it should be welcome news for parents at about 650 primary schools in that position, parents at schools that have raised funds and organised schemes without extra state support are furious.
