There has been another significant reduction in the number of planning applications dealt with by Cork County Council last year, with a result that development contributions have collapsed to a fraction of their boom-time levels.

Income from planning fees and contributions from developers were once a very significant source of income for the cash-strapped local authority.

Figures show that it dealt with 8,680 planning applications in 2008. This figure has fallen yearly and in 2013 reached 3,200.
