CAB holds eBay auction for €9k Rolex bought by Limerick crime gang member
The Ladies Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust comes with full certification, is still in its box and purchased new is worth over €9,000. This watch is categorised as used in the sale, but has a 24-month guarantee from Keanes of Cork, Limerick and Galway. Bidding starts at €6,000 and any interested parties have less than 10 days to get their offer in.
CAB said it is treating the auction as a test case for the future sale of other seized high value luxury items on the internet, as happens in other European police forces.
Money raised will ultimately be handed over to the Department of Finance.
Selling under the name ‘proceedsofcrimeact1996’, CAB described the item as a Christmas present from 2011. It states the sale of the watch arises from an application under the Proceeds of Crime Act, 1997 and 2005 and is being sold by the court-appointed receiver.
Last month, CAB and local gardaí seized an Audi Q7 vehicle, more than €26,000 in cash and two gold Rolex watches from a property in the Moyross area of Limerick city.
It’s believed the watches belonged to Edward ‘Eds’ McCarthy and his partner, Linda Mullane.
The watch can be paid for by PayPal, with a personal cheque or bankers’ draft. No cash or postal orders will be accepted.
Postage and packing for this expensive purchase comes at €30.
