In its pre-budget submission, released yesterday, Sinn Féin proposed €1bn in expenditure cutbacks and €1.4bn in taxation to bring about a total deficit reduction of €2.45bn.

Finance spokesman Pearse Doherty claimed his party’s alternative budget would lower the tax burden on ordinary families.
