Travel fund for murdered mother’s children

Last month, the town of Bailieborough, Co Cavan, was left in mourning following the death of Patricia, a mother of four who was killed on the Drumbannon estate.
Her husband, Oliver, aged 56, of Drumbannon estate, has been charged with her murder.
Three of the Belfast native’s four grown children, Oliver Jr, Julie, and Gerard, live in Australia and were forced to return to Ireland in horrific circumstances, as was one son, Shane, who was in England also on his way to Australia on the day of her murder, Thursday, Sept 5.
Her body was laid to rest after a moving funeral ceremony in St Anne’s Church in the town on Sept 14. Hundreds of shocked locals paid their respect at a Mass offered by local priest Fr Oliver O’Reilly, who knew Patricia well.
After the funeral, Fr O’Reilly and others set up a committee for the Kierans Siblings’ Travel Fund, to cope with the cost of travel for family members and other expenses.
Fr O’Reilly praised locals’ “extreme generosity”.
“It went extremely well, we went way above any targets we might have set.
“All the family members are extremely grateful, thankful, to the people of Bailieborough and the surrounding area,” he said.
