Engineers can score Qatar’s world cup jobs

One of the companies tasked with putting the infrastructure in place for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar has put out a call for Irish engineers willing to travel to the Middle Eastern country to work on the project.

Engineers can score Qatar’s world cup jobs

Last July, engineering and design consultancy Hyder Consulting held a recruitment drive in Ireland, Britain and Germany aimed at bringing in several hundred, new skilled staff members.

The company received a lot of interest from Irish engineers and, with the quality of workmanship they have shown over the last 12 months, the company is looking to Ireland to provide more staff for the project.

Recruits will be drafted into the Qatari National Public Works authority’s “Ashghal” scheme in the capital Doha.

The five-year project will see Hyder responsible for undertaking all the consultancy and engineering services for the north area of Doha with regard to local roads and drainage projects, including the upgrading of existing substandard or temporary local roads and infrastructure, and constructing new roads and infrastructure for planned, new developments throughout the state of Qatar. Engineers will receive a competitive, tax-free salary.

John Spiers, Hyder’s technical director for transport in the Middle East, said: “Ireland has an excellent reputation for developing highly skilled engineers and we need the very best skilled engineers to ensure the Ashghal project reaches its full potential.

“Successful candidates will travel overseas to experience an exciting new lifestyle for the duration of the project whilst also having the chance to work on iconic international projects, and help Doha prepare its infrastructure ahead of major international events, such as the FIFA World Cup. Recruits will also be working amongst some of the most highly skilled engineering professionals in the world.”
