Fears have been expressed that the expansion of a satellite town has been put on indefinite hold because the Government has pulled funding for a vital new road.

Cork County Council was hoping to get money from the Department of Transport’s Strategic Roads Grants to construct an inner western relief road in Carrigaline.

The council can’t afford the €7.5m needed to build the road, which is vital to relieve congestion in one of Ireland’s largest commuter towns and to open up further land for commercial development.
