Lenihan wept as he imposed budget cuts, son Tom reveals

The late Brian Lenihan wept over the budget cuts he imposed as finance minister, his son Tom has revealed.

Speaking openly about the effect of his father’s cancer on the family, Tom, 22, said he has struggled with depression.

“Coming up to the budgets, Dad would have been very sympathetic with those that faced the cuts,” he said. “He would have lost sleep. He would have shed tears over it.
