Ray ‘losing sleep’ over big day speech

Radio star Ray D’Arcy has poured cold water on signing a magazine deal for his upcoming wedding, but revealed he had considered inviting listeners along to his big day later this year.

The 48-year-old is set to wed co-host and producer Jenny Kelly, after popping the question with the help of their six-year-old daughter Kate at Christmas. Jenny gave birth to the couple’s son Tom in June.

The Today FM host said he had briefly considered inviting along some of the show’s loyal listeners, after receiving cheeky requests for invites. “The thought did cross my mind. I didn’t share it with Jenny and then commonsense prevailed.

“I thought to myself ‘imagine doing that and then someone who thought they should be invited, a relation or a friend, heard that and how would they feel? Not good.’

“Someone else said to me all the listeners feel they should be there to celebrate myself and Jenny’s big day. I’ll discuss it with Jenny but I think I know what she is going to say.”

Meanwhile, he poured cold water on the notion of signing a magazine deal or releasing a podcast of his speech. “That is too private, too personal. I have been thinking about it [the speech] a lot. I have been losing sleep as a result.”

He has also decided the best thing to do to prepare for the big day is not to stray too far from routine.

“On these big occasions, in regard to a sporting occasion or an exam or any big occasion in your life, don’t do anything different.

“Don’t try a different deodorant, don’t put different make-up on ladies, don’t eat anything different. The likelihood is it can just do something to you and ruin your day.”
