Parents have expressed anger at Government and schools over the financial pressures faced trying to get children ready for the new term.

The latest round of cuts to the back to school clothing and footwear allowance along with constant requests for contributions from schools, are among the biggest gripes by those who responded to the eighth Barnardos Back to School survey.

“These comments give a true flavour of the anger and sense of betrayal that parents feel that common-sense measures, which would cost the exchequer nothing, are not being adopted,” said Barnardos chief executive Fergus Finlay.
