As a clean-up continued yesterday following a landslide on a major tourist route on Sunday evening, there were complaints about a lack of signage on minor roads to which people were diverted.

A lost Belgian visitor found himself in a bizarre situation when even local people could not tell him where he was, it has emerged.

A huge amount of mud and rock — estimated by Kerry County Council to be between 2,000 and 3,000 tonnes — was washed down a hillside after torrential rain, making a section of the Ring of Kerry road impassable for more than four hours.
