Psychiatric report ordered on double murder accused
Aurimas Andruska, aged 26, a Lithuanian national with an address at 7 Ardmoniel Heights, Killorglin, Co Kerry, made a second court appearance on charges connected with the killing of a Lithuanian woman and her young daughter in a Killorglin housing estate, on Jun 15.
He was previously charged on Friday night with the murder of Jolanta Lubiene, aged 27, at Langford Downs, Killorglin, and with the unlawful killing of Enrika Lubyte, aged 8, at the same address on the same date.
At Killarney District Court yesterday, however, the charge in relation to Enrika Lubyte was withdrawn and a murder charge preferred instead.
Detective Sergeant John Kelly, Killarney, replying to Inspector Aileen Magner, gave evidence of arresting the accused at 10.52am yesterday. He said that when the new charge was put to him, after caution, he made no reply.
Solicitor Peter Malone, for the accused, applied for legal aid in respect of the new charge, based on a statement of means already given to the court. This was granted by Judge James O’Connor.
He also asked for a psychiatric report to be prepared in relation to the accused for the next court sitting due to the degree of concern expressed by the medical officer in the prison service. This was also granted.
The accused was remanded in custody to appear at Tralee Court at 10.30am next Tuesday.
There were shouts and verbal abuse from some people who had gathered outside as Mr Andruska was led into Killarney courthouse by gardaí.
His head was covered with a hoodie as he entered the building and he wore a dark track suit pants and a striped grey top.
He did not speak during the five-minute hearing which was assisted by a Lithuanian interpreter.
The late Ms Lubiene’s widower, Marius Lubys, and her sister, Kristina, sat together in the public gallery with a plain clothes garda liaison officer.
