Ahern agrees €38k settlement with woman in personal injury claim

Former taoiseach Bertie Ahern has settled — for an undisclosed sum — a €38,000 damages claim with a woman who fell in his constituency office.

Barrister Lisa Kelly, counsel for Mr Ahern, whose address was given as St Luke’s, Drumcondra, Dublin, told the Circuit Civil Court the case had been settled.

Marie Thérèse O’Loughlin, of Eagle Lodge Apartments, Leinster Rd West, Dublin 6, had sued Mr Ahern by name for injuries she suffered in a trip and fall in St Luke’s on Dec 19, 2007.

Ms O’Loughlin claimed she had fallen in a hallway and had suffered “personal injuries and loss”. No details of physical injuries were outlined to the court.

Ms Kelly told Judge Alan Mahon in the Circuit Civil Court that she appeared for Mr Ahern who had settled the case which could be struck out with an order for Ms O’Loughlin’s legal costs.

Judge Mahon struck out the case and directed that legal costs be taxed in default of agreement.
