Child abuse referrals have doubled since 2005

Children’s Minister Frances Fitzgerald described child abuse figures published yesterday by Women’s Aid as “very worrying”.

The domestic violence support group recorded a 55% year-on-year increase in violence against children of abused women in 2012.

Women disclosed on 3,230 occasions last year that their children had suffered emotional, physical, and sexual abuse.
