Mixed weather forecast for days ahead

May bank holiday weather will be a mixed bag so pack the sun cream, brolly and jumper when out and about.

Mixed weather forecast for days ahead

Sunday and Monday look like being the best days, with a good deal of dry weather as well as some sunshine.

Met Éireann’s Harm Luijkx says the outlook for the bank holiday weekend is still uncertain.

“What we have is a weather front with the boundary between cool air in the north and much milder air in the south, and the way the boundary is going to move over Ireland is a bit uncertain,” he said.

However, most of the information available suggested that the best of the weather would be on Sunday and Monday.

Because the cool air is not too far away there is a chance that tomorrow could be much cooler.

“Saturday looks to be the most uncertain day at this stage because the air over the country could either be cool or mild” Mr Luijkx told the Irish Examiner.

According to Met Éireann, milder air is expected to spread to most parts of the country on Sunday and Monday, with a good deal of dry weather.

While there will be some sunshine during the latter part of the weekend, there will also be a lot of cloud.

Atlantic coastal regions, in particular, are likely to stay cloudy with patchy rain or drizzle.

Today will start off mainly dry over much of Leinster and Munster, with some bright spells in the south-east.

However, persistent or heavy rain will affect Connacht and Ulster and will extend into Leinster and Munster in the afternoon when it will become lighter and more patchy.

The forecast for tomorrow remains uncertain, with latest indications suggesting it will be a relatively mild day with afternoon temperatures in the mid teens.

There will be some sunshine and a few showers tomorrow, with the chance that much cooler and brighter weather will spread across the country.

Mr Luijkx said the temperature over the holiday weekend is expected to be normal or even a degree or two above normal.
