‘My main concern is the safety of the children’
Glenduff in Kilfinane is on the list. But there is no estate by that name. However, there is a seven-house development Cois na Sruthan in Glenduff.
Tony Clancy, one of the residents said he and his wife were lucky in that they bought their detached house for €200,000 in 2009.
He said: “It was priced at €360,000 when it was built.”
Problems in the estate, he said, mainly centre on the roadway which was not properly laid.
He said: “It’s in the same rough condition as when the estate was being built. The footpaths have not been fully finished and three vacant sites which have not been built on have not been properly railed off and there is rubble there.”
Tony said the residents have taken steps to improve the place.
He said: “Myself and neighbours have been doing our own work to clean up the place. We also cut the grass and this is the best we can do and put an effort to keep the place.”
Mr Clancy said families are hopeful the county council will take the estate in charge over coming months.
Local postman Peter O’Sullivan was the first resident to move into the estate in 2008.
He said: “Two of my children are very young and I don’t allow them out because there is rubble and the base of a house but this area is not fenced off. We try and maintain the road ourselves with a load of gravel we bought. Our local county councillor David Moloney has been working on the situation and keeping us informed and he says we are the next estate on the council list to be taken in charge.
“My main concern is for the safety of the children.”
