Broadcaster speaks about return of cancer

The broadcaster, 51, is undergoing intensive chemotherapy after an aggressive form of cancer has attacked two of his most vital internal organs.
In Mar 2011, Mr Fenton had a malignant melanoma removed from his leg, but it returned a few months later and resulted in him having his prostate gland removed.
Mr Fenton had been feeling fine since then. But a few weeks ago he noticed a peculiar lump on the back of his hand. The next day it turned black and blue and he went to his doctor straightaway. “They tested it, confirmed it was a melanoma and after tests discovered it had spread to two other parts of my body. It’s on two of my internal organs. I don’t want to be too specific, but we’re fighting it.
“When the doctor told me I just had this awful white noise in my ears. I couldn’t believe it was back again. The fear comes right over you. You can’t hear anything.
“But I actually feel lucky that the bump surfaced. We’ve now caught it all early and can treat it. Yes, I really do feel lucky. I’m moving fast. I had the first course of chemotherapy last week and came back to work this week.”
He revealed how he heard the news: “We were launching the Shave Or Die campaign on Today FM to conquer cancer when the doctor called me with the diagnosis. I couldn’t believe it. But I went ahead and did my show and it took my mind off things to a certain degree. In fact work is good, it’s helping me through it. I love my job, it’s all I ever wanted to do.”
