Majestic views of Kerry are being missed by many of the two million tourists arriving into the county.

Kerry visitors ‘missing views’ due to lack of funds

Visitors crossing into Kerry from Co Limerick are greeted by a panorama, from Castleisland taking in hundreds of square miles, including the MacGillycuddy Reeks and the Atlantic.

But, locals in Castleisland say, tourists “do not get a proper chance” to enjoy it.

Castleisland-based Cllr Bobby O’Connell said he was “very disappointed” after Kerry County Council refused to provide what he described as proper viewing area and facilities for tourists at Dooneen, near the town.

“If it were Killarney, Dingle or Kenmare these facilities would be provided,” the councillor (FG) claimed.

The council said the existing viewing park on the N21 road at Ahaneboy was a regular stopping place with a green area and space for 20 cars. It said “there is no scope for further investments at this location”.
