‘Significant arrest’ after fatal shooting
Gardaí are satisfied they have identified all the people — numbering up to eight — who were involved in some way in the death of Christopher Warren. Further arrests are expected.
The 35-year-old dad, who was a serial burglar and drug addict, died in what gardaí believe was a punishment attack that went too far.
Officers suspect that Warren, from Teresa’s Gardens flat complex in the south inner city, had agreed to an arranged beating in retaliation for hitting a woman in a pub on St Stephen’s night.
It is thought the assault, which happened in a pub in Inchicore in the south inner city, was over a minor drugs-related row.
Gardaí suspect at some stage the punishment got out of hand and a gun was used, resulting in Warren receiving two injuries, one to his stomach and one to his leg.
Warren, who was out on temporary release from prison for Christmas, was brought to St James’s Hospital and dumped at the entrance. The car was later found abandoned on nearby Cork Street.
The man who dropped him to the hospital was later arrested, but was released on Sunday night. Yesterday morning, detectives moved on a man, aged in his late 20s. Garda sources said this was a “significant arrest” and the man was heavily involved in the attack.
