Suicide charity sees 40% rise in people seeking help

A charity for the prevention of self-harm and suicide has recorded a 40% increase in attendance at its services in the first six months of this year compared with the same period in 2011.

Figures from Pieta House, which provides specialised treatment for people who have suicidal thoughts or who engage in self-harm, show 1,059 people attended its centres between January and the end of June this year.

This compares with 759 people who sought help for the same period in 2011.
