Sex offender breached terms of sentence

Gustav Dahm, of Ard na Mara, Pier Road, Kenmare, Co Kerry, and with a current address at Beachside Glen, River Chapel, Gorey, Co Wexford, appeared before Judge Carroll Moran at the Circuit Criminal Court in Tralee.

Six years ago, he had been given a 10-year jail sentence after pleading guilty to 24 counts of indecent and sexual assault and gross indecency against six children, two boys and four girls, between 1986 and 2003.

The last four years of the sentence were suspended subject to several conditions, including the accused should have no unsupervised contact with children under 17 and that he should stay away from his mother’s guesthouse in Kenmare while guests were present.

The court was told he had served his sentence in Arbour Hill Prison but came to the attention of the probation service after being in contact with two boys, aged between 10 and 13, in Gorey, on Apr 27 last.

Wexford-based probation officer Catherine Lambert said Dahm engaged in some talk with the boys while on his way home from a shop and also kicked football with them on the road.

She said Dahm admitted he had broken a condition of the sentence, that he had made a mistake and an error of judgement. “The accused, himself, withdrew from the situation.”
