Jedward hope to make a splash
Tell Katie Taylor to throw in the towel (politely). And don’t fret over that fiscal treaty.
For a strange but vocal percentage of the public, the real Irish standout moment for this year is about to take centre stage.
Over the coming days Jedward will become the embodiment of Irishness for Eurovision fans.
The high-haired pair — whose new look means they will at least see their hair flattened tonight, if not their support — take part in the first semi-final in Baku, Azerbaijan, this evening in front of a European TV audience of millions, culminating in the duo splashing into a huge fountain.
The build-up in recent days has seen the former X Factor finalists — infamously described as “vile little creatures” by Simon Cowell — make headlines for seeking “undercover” security and sneaking bunnies into their hotel room.
But tonight the talking will finally stop, as the Lucan lads take a second stab at Eurovision glory.
“We’re going to be totally awesome and Jepic,” they said, adding: “We’re going out there to rock it.”
They may be more Avril Lavigne than Mick Jagger, but for Eurovision fans they are still what the annual early summer contest is all about.
* The Eurovision semi-final starts at 8pm on RTÉ Two.
