Two men stabbed in fight at house party

Two men received multiple stab wounds when a row broke out in a house in Cork City early yesterday.

Superintendent Barry McPolin, who is leading the investigation, said gardaí received a call that a fight had broken out at a house at St Joseph’s Villas, near Ashton Comprehensive School on the Blackrock Road, at 1.47am.

Gardaí found four people in the house, two of whom had been stabbed.

Two men, aged 41 and 24, were taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where they were being treated for their injuries yesterday.

It is believed they are in a stable condition and that their injuries are not life threatening.

Gardaí arrested a 28-year-old man at the scene. He was being detained yesterday under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at the Bridewell Garda Station.

It is understood he had received minor injuries which did not require hospital treatment.

A young woman who was also in the house at the time was not injured and was not detained by gardaí.

Supt McPolin said it appeared a row had broken out between the men.

The two who were stabbed are understood to have addresses on the northside of the city and were believed to be attending a party at the house when trouble flared.

“We recovered weapons [knives] from the scene. The scene was sealed off and our forensic experts were carrying out an extensive examination of the scene yesterday,” said Supt McPolin.

He said gardaí were continuing with their inquiries.
