Rail users are facing a further increase in travelling costs with some intercity fares set to increase by up to 13% from next month.

However, it is not all bad news for Iarnród Éireann customers, as other fares will fall by up to 29%, including some services to Galway and Rosslare, while single fares from Heuston Dublin to Cork and Killarney will be 9% cheaper.

The National Transport Authority said yesterday it had sanctioned an increase for a majority of Iarnród Éireann’s 224 fare bands for its intercity services as part of a major reform of the company’s pricing structure.
