While most contestants are devastated when they leave the show, the teenager from the North said she was relieved to be voted off before the semi-final.

She said on Daybreak yesterday morning: “I feel kind of happy and kind of relieved. There is a lot of stress and now it is gone.

“All my family were telling me I was back to myself because I was happy. It’s the happiest I have been for the whole show.

“I feel completely fine. I probably shouldn’t after being kicked off the show.”

The refreshingly honest 17-year-old also admitted she was fed up of belting out cover versions.

She said: “To me, the sad thing about X Factor which brought me down a lot was the fact I was covering other people’s songs.

“I got to the point where I just felt like a karaoke artist every Saturday night. You’re just sitting there singing someone else’s song really.”

The red-headed singer said she can’t wait to get into a studio to record her own music.

She said: “I just literally can’t wait to go into a studio and do my own music. If it goes well and the music goes out and people like it, then that’s great.
