A WASTE management company that lost its bid to develop a 240,000-tonne incinerator in Cork harbour is to seek the re-opening of the 2009 An Bord Pleanála hearing into the planned project.

Indaver claims the board, which ruled against the €140 million waste-to-energy plant, failed to take account of repeated public assertions by Cork County Council that they were unlikely to develop a mechanical biological treatment facility and landfill in the county at Bottlehill.

These public pronouncements were made in the two years after the hearing finished but before the inspector and the board made its final decision in May of this year. During the hearing, Cork County Council had argued that it was fully committed to providing its own waste-management solutions.
