Third man held in murder inquiry

GARDAÍ have made a third arrest as part of their investigation into the murder of a Cork drug dealer.

Third man held in murder inquiry

A man in his 20s was arrested following a raid by detectives in the Carrigaline area early yesterday.

They are investigating the gangland-style killing of Darren Falsey, who was murdered in the hallway of his rented house at Ashbourne Court in Carrigaline on August 3.

The man was taken to the Bridewell garda station where he was being detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act (2007).

Two other men, one aged 22 and the other aged 30, were arrested in dawn swoops, also in the Carrigaline area on Monday.

They were being questioned in Mayfield and Togher garda stations under the same act. The legislation allows gardaí to detain the men for a period of up to five days before they either have to be charged or elsereleased without charge.

The latest arrest is part of what is understood to be a painstaking investigation into the death of Falsey.

More than 60 gardaí are working on the case. It has been speculated that Falsey may have been killed for refusing to pay protection money or a drugs debt.

The high-powered handgun used to kill him was found during a search of woodland near the village of Watergrasshill last month.

Shortly after his murder, detectives found more than €30,000 of cash concealed in a lock-up that Falsey was renting in Riverstick.
