Soprano helps old school celebrate 50th anniversary on a high note
Cara O’Sullivan, who sat her Leaving Certificate exam in Cork’s Regina Mundi College in 1980, went back to the school where she developed her love of music, to announce details of her gala concert in City Hall, on Friday, November 18.
“I’m delighted to be involved in the semicentennial celebrations for Regina Mundi College,” she said.
“It brings back so many wonderful memories of my time as a Regina girl.”
Standing in the school’s music room where she honed her craft, she also confirmed that she will perform a duet on the night with her niece, Fifi Coughlan, who is a Transition Year student at the school.
Regina Mundi College was founded by Margaret ‘Daisy’ Corrigan in 1961 in Endsleigh House on the Douglas Road.
The house was demolished in 1979 to make way for the spacious new school, which was completed in 1981.
The school has been celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with a series of events. One of the highlights was a visit by outgoing President Mary McAleese last April to officially launch the celebrations.
Mrs McAleese also unveiled a sculpture on the school grounds of five bronze books, stacked one atop the other, representing the school’s last five decades.
* Tickets for Cara O’Sullivan’s concert on November 18 are on sale at ProMusica and at the school from today.
