Pub: No more ‘CIT Christmas Day’ events
Publican Kieran Horgan of The Bishopstown Bar gave the undertaking at Cork District Court, at which point gardaí and the Bishopstown Community Association withdrew their objections to the renewal of the pub’s licence.
Mr Horgan read from a written undertaking: “I Kieran Horgan do hereby undertake that no students will be facilitated at Bishopstown Bar on the day known as CIT Christmas Day. I undertake that no advertising will be issued on behalf of Bishopstown Bar to CIT by way of flyers to those attending CIT or put on any advertisements on social websites Bebo or Facebook.
“I undertake that no musical or social event will be organised or permitted to take place within the premises which would facilitate or encourage the participation of students in any activity which is commonly known as or associated with the CIT Christmas Day.” He also undertook that no special lunch would be organised for students that day.
A month ago McCarthy’s Bar on Model Farm Road similarly disassociated itself from any plans for the event this November.
In recent years there were public order incidents in the Bishopstown area during and after the day-long party, which has been described as a drinking festival.
