Remains exhumed after sale of Presbyterian church

The church in Ballyshannon, which dates backs to the early 1800s, was sold to the McMahon family last week — four years after it was first put on the market.

The selling price of the unique building was €170,000, although it is unclear as to the final selling price.

The new owners of the Co Donegal church, Louise McMahon, her husband and their five children now plan on turning the church into a family home.

The McMahons, who currently live in Dublin, plan to move to Donegal and renovate the church, but will be restricted as there are planning restrictions on the building.

Before the church was placed on the market, the bodies of two ministers had to be exhumed from the churchyard and moved to new graves in Raphoe and Raneany.
