Animal lovers to go wild for Pet Expo
With that in mind, Pet Expo, at the RDS in Dublin on October 8 and 9, will see thousands of Irish families spend some time learning about all kinds of domestic pets with some opting to take a furry friend home.
There are about 1.3 million documented pets in Ireland, including 424,000 dogs and 315,000 cats as well as a few other feathered friends.
This year’s show will see the largest ever Irish Breeders’ Village showcasing over 50 dog breeds with the aim of educating Irish people about responsible dog ownership.
Dog experts and breeders will be on hand to answer questions and do a little match-making.
There will be hundreds of rescue dogs available for adoption and experts will be on hand to ensure attendees make the right choice of friend.
Some owners needing advice on their pet problems can speak to pet behaviour counsellor Jim Stephens, who said that most problems can be solved with a little bit of research.
“My job is to fix pet problems when things go wrong, however, most problematic pet situations can be avoided by the owners doing their research before taking on a pet. Pet Expo is the perfect environment to get to grips with the responsibility of having a pet,” he said.
The Pet Expo will also offer children the chance to enjoy meeting, touching and learning about animals. Activities for children include pony rides, touching a snake and pets corner.
Pet Expo takes place at the RDS in Dublin on October 8-9. Family tickets are €30, adults €10, children €6 and those under three years old are free.
