Familiar soundtrack for hurling final
Johnny B and The Boogie Men, who had a huge hit this time last year with The Premier Rap, have just released The Premier Return.
“This one is for the fans,” says John O’Brien, the frontman and songwriter with the Cahir-based band. “I go to every game — I haven’t missed one for years — and you see the same people there: Hard-core fans who never miss a match.
Of The Premier Return, John is not shy of confidence, pro-claim-ing: “I’d say it will be blaring out of cars as people go to matches.”
The video, which will be available on YouTube and the band’s Facebook page, was filmed last weekend in Cahir and at Sean Treacy Park in Carrick-on-Suir.
“They were brilliant in Carrick. Every house in Sean Treacy Park is decorated in flags and bunting in the Tipp colours. I’d say there’s no place else like it in the county,” says John.
Legendary Aherlow commentator Effin’ Eddie (Moroney) also pops up in the video, joined by locals and supporters from Holycross and Nenagh.
Johnny B and The Boogie Men performed The Premier Rap last year on Up For The Match, broadcast on RTÉ on the eve of the All Ireland Final. And there’s every possibility they could make a re-appearance this year.
In the last two years, the band has raised €10,000 for charities including South Tipperary Hospice, the Day Care Centre in Cahir and Chernobyl Children’s International Project.
But how will the All Ireland final go? John is adamant.
“I think Tipp will just shade it.
“It will be a very close and physical game, although it will be more open than the semi-final. If Tipp wanted to quell the hype surrounding them they certainly achieved that against Dublin.”
