Ó Sé spices up festival with scandalous revelation

THE Rose of Tralee doesn’t do scandalous sex secrets, so it was no wonder Daithí Ó Sé’s tongue-in-cheek response to questions about his blossoming romance with former Rose Rita Talty led to a sudden pandemic of journalistic panic.

Ó Sé spices up festival with scandalous revelation

Speaking to reporters during an early morning press conference yesterday, the Kerryman was met with a barrage of queries about his private life.

True to his happy-go-lucky image, when asked if there was any more news on his engagement to 2008 New Jersey Rose Rita — a relationship revealed exactly a year ago — the gaelgóir side-stepped the usual knee-jerk “no comment” celebrity response by joking: “Well, I’m gay.”

Before the cheeky dig at an obsessed media caused emergency calls to his loved-up fiancée, the Dingle native was quick to clarify that he couldn’t be happier marrying a girl who during the festival three years ago wowed him with — of all things — The Breakfast Roll song.

Although he does seem to still be a bit confused about at least some of his private life. “We don’t know what date, what country or what continent [for the wedding], but once she’s still with me after the next two nights I’ll be happy,” the TV star explained.

Since becoming the festival’s ring-master, following in the footsteps of some Irish broadcasting legends, the 35-year-old has made a point of putting some of his unique imprint on the stage.

While there may not be one Daithí moment — with some cringe-worthy on the side — for everybody in the audience (the ghost of Gaybo lives on), the presenter has insisted each Rose will bring “different craic” to the table.

The Kerryman has said his only job is to “make sure the roses are comfortable on stage”. And, presumably, slightly creep out reporters who ask how he makes himself comfortable with a stressful two-day live TV event weighing on his shoulders.

“I’ve been up in the room watching TV, just pampering myself and taking baths. I brought the little squeezy duck, it’s my lucky duck. It’s called Ann after Rita’s mother.”

Must be a Jersey thing.
