Bands sign up for Limerick’s 2012 parade
The parade which is part of Limerick's St Patrick’s Festival next March.
The festival announced yesterday that four large bands — three from North America and one from Belarus — have already confirmed that they plan to participate in the 2012 International Band Parade and Competition.
These are the Marvin Ridge High School from North Carolina, the Permian High School Band from Texas, the University of Missouri Marching Band from Missouri and the White Russian Central Army Band from Belarus.
Bands from Northern Ireland and Britain are expected to be confirmed later in the year.
Following on from the success of the 2011 festival where close to 1000 participants and band members took to the street, Ireland’s only international band competition will feature a world class judging panel and will attract thousands of spectators on to the streets of the Treaty City as part of the 2012 Limerick St Patrick’s Festival.
Mayor of Limerick Cllr Maria Byrne said it was really positive news for the city with such early indications on bands for 2012.
“Limerick is really looking forward to welcoming these bands which will add to this marvellous international event heading in its 42nd year,” she said.
“The organisers of the Parade are continuing to work closely with tour operators and band directors to line up more bands for 2012 and I look forward to further announcements about additional bands in the coming months,” Ms Byrne added.
