EU proposals to cut airport fees

AIRPORT fees that can double or treble the price of a bargain flight could take a tumble once airports reorganise the way they allocate the all-important slots.

The EU proposals could also mean that no-frills airlines could move to mainstream airports, away from the lengthy journeys to remote runways.

Airport slots — which allocate specific times and dates to an airline to land and take off — are like gold dust at the big international airports with airlines hanging onto them whether they need them or not.
