The confirmation of the offers came from Limerick County Council as the 2010 report for the council-operated landfill showed an operating loss of €650,088.

The loss came in spite of the facility increasing the amount of waste it accepted last year to 112,699 tonnes.

The council had put the landfill up for sale last year. It confirmed offers had been received from three interested parties.

“These offers are presently being reviewed by Limerick County Council and its consultants. No specific timeframe can be placed on the review process or conclusion of same at this time,” a spokesperson said

Waste at the site doubled in recent years from 56,070 tonnes in 2008 to 112,699 tonnes last year.

The amount of waste landfilled in 2010 represented a 8.5% increase from the 2009 figure of 103,834 tonnes.

The annual report further showed a fund of €6 million will be required for 30 years to fund its annual monitoring and management costs.
