GARDAÍ were yesterday hunting the attackers of a young man stabbed near an apartment complex in Dublin.
Murder hunt after fatal stabbing

The 19-year-old man was found with severe stab wounds at the car park of the Emmet Court apartment complex in Inchicore in south Dublin after 10pm on Saturday after having apparently been chased by a group of four or more hooded teenagers.

He was rushed to the nearby St James’s Hospital but died at 11.45pm.

Gardaí in Ballymun in Dublin, meanwhile, continued their investigation into the death of a man who was injured outside a pharmacy on St Patrick’s Day and later died in hospital.

Meanwhile, the murder scene in Inchicore was sealed off yesterday for a technical examination by the Technical Bureau from Garda Headquarters.

State pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy is due to conduct a postmortem on the teenager’s body this morning.

Gardaí believe the young man left the Davitt House area and crossed the canal, where he was chased by a gang of youths.

It is understood he ran back over the canal and turned into Emmet Court, where he was then stabbed several times.

Gardaí do not believe it was a random attack but, as yet, no motive has been uncovered as to why he was targeted.

Gardaí have asked anyone with information to contact Kilmainham station on 01-6667300, or the Garda Confidential Line.

Meanwhile, gardaí in Co Monaghan last night said that the death of a middle-aged man in Ballybay was not suspicious.

The 57-year-old’s body was found at around 1.40am in a house in Ballybay by a passerby who saw the man face down on the floor. He was officially pronounced dead at 3.30am.

His body remained at the scene for some time yesterday for a technical examination, and assistant state pathologist Dr Curtis later conducted a postmortem at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan, which established that he died of natural causes.

It is understood the man had been in court in Co Monaghan last week on a number of serious charges.

Meanwhile, gardaí are continuing their investigation into the death of 48-year-old Joseph Connolly.

He died in hospital following an altercation on the Ballymun Road on Thursday evening last.
