Ikea recalls tea maker amid burns concern
The Swedish giant has asked that customers who purchased a Forsta glass pot last year to return it to the store for a full refund.
The Forsta coffee/tea maker came in two sizes, 0.4litre costing €6.99 and a 1litre pot costing €9.99, and were sold at Ikea stores between February and December 2010.
The recall came after it was discovered that pressure from the metal holder on the glass pot could cause it to break unexpectedly, posing a burn and laceration risk.
Ikea has so far received 20 reports of the glass pot breaking, including 12 reports of burn injures from spilt coffee and tea, and one report of a laceration injury.
A spokesman for Ikea confirmed that one of the reported injuries came from a customer in Ireland.
Ikea also confirmed that 810,529 glass beverage pots, had been sold worldwide, with 3,588 of these having been sold from the Ikea Dublin store.
The spokesman said the store wished to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“Ikea does not compromise on product safety and recommend all customers concerned to return the Forsta coffee/ tea maker for a full refund.”
In January of this year, Ikea issued a recall of a Rund glass mug after receiving 12 reports worldwide of the glass mugs having broken in use, and in five cases, injuries resulted.
