Maternity outreach service scoops prestigious award
The service which brings antenatal, postnatal and gynaecology services to Cork’s urban and rural communities, has won an award in the Astellas Changing Tomorrow Awards recently.
The service aims to provide a community-based integrated service that is accessible, comprehensive and woman-centred in an effort to reduce the time and expense of travelling for patients.
Low-risk patients are seen in a location close to home by a team from CUMH and care is planned and provided in these centres, thereby reducing the numbers attending CUMH.
The awards were organised by Astellas Pharma Co Ltd and Astellas Ireland Co to recognise the achievements of healthcare professionals who endeavour to deliver an outstanding service for their patients.
The Cois Tí service took top honours in the Environmental/Social Responsibility category, which recognises and rewards individuals or teams who have introduced an initiative, which has had significant impact on the health and wellbeing of local communities, or have delivered patient care in an environmental sustainable way.
Clinical midwifery manager 3 with the Cois Tí service at CUMH, Edel Nagle, said the award was a recognition of the dedication and hard work of the staff.
She said the staff at Cois Tí were honoured and delighted to receive the award.
“Cois Tí is a perfect example of how a carefully researched and planned initiative using national statistical information can provide a vital service to a community, whilst also making the best use of hospital resources and reducing waiting times,” she said.
Cois Tí operates from five locations: Mallow Primary Care Centre, Living Health Clinic, Mitchelstown, St Mary’s Orthopaedic Hospital, St Finbarr’s Hospital and Bantry General Hospital.
The awards were open to any kind of professionals working in the field of health, and people working in patient advocacy groups and professional organisations and associations.
