Gardai probe convent fire

GARDAÍ in Co Clare are investigating the cause of a fire which destroyed a large wing of an old convent in the early hours of yesterday morning.

A routine Garda patrol detected the fire at the former Convent of Mercy at Lahinch Road, Ennistymon, shortly after midnight and quickly raised the alarm.

Gardaí are investigating the cause of the fire and have not ruled out the possibility that it was started maliciously.
