SCREENINGS of the ever-popular Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and High School Musical are among the highlights of a programme of free events during next week’s Waterford International Festival of Music.

Free events ‘to cater for everyone’ at music festival

The 2010 festival includes the city’s 50th Waterford International Festival of Light Opera, a Gospel Festival, a High School Music Festival, a Fringe Festival and other special music events, all culminating in an Oscar-style finale gala evening hosted by RTÉ’s Maura Derrane.

Organisers announced a programme of free events, including two showings of children’s favourite Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on Saturday, November 6, and High School Musical on November 13, both at The Granary.

Meanwhile, a collection of memorabilia from the 50 years of the Waterford International Festival of Light Opera has been collected and curated and will be on public display from October 28 at 6.30pm in Christchurch Cathedral.

This 50-year showcase is free for public viewing until November 3 and a limited exhibition of the collection will feature at the Theatre Royal vestibule until the end of the festival.

Free lunchtime concerts will take place as part of the Waterford Fringe Festival at venues across the city from November 2 to 13.

A free surprise opera screening will take place at Garter Lane Theatre on Thursday, November 11 at 8pm.

Commenting at yesterday’s free events programme announcement, Waterford International Festival of Music chairperson, Anne Marie Caulfield said the range of events caters for everyone.
