Young farmers agree on perfect age to get hitched

IT is time to tie the knot if you’re in your late 20s or early 30s, according to 80% of young farmers surveyed recently by Macra na Feirme.

Young farmers agree on perfect age to get hitched

They believe this is the perfect age bracket at which to get married – a clear signal it is time to get a move on for those not already going down the aisle.

Macra’s annual survey of 124 young farmers between the ages of 17 and 35 explored their opinions and insights.

It revealed that 65% feel stereotyped as young people and 68% think the role of the President of Ireland is necessary.

Macra president Michael Gowing said the survey results show young farmers continue to value steady relationships.

“They value the stability of marriage. The family farm structure has worked in the past and has been the cornerstone of rural Ireland.

“The overwhelming response to the survey question shows the value young people place on the family structure,” he said.

The survey also revealed that the majority of young farmers feel stereotyped as young people.

Mr Gowing, however, was quick to highlight that young people are the future of the country.

“Young people feel today they are painted with the one brush. Particularly in light of the government policies which have thrown aside young people in one fell swoop.

“Young people have the desire and the ability to move forward, all they need is the respect of the country’s leaders and the opportunities to make sure the country returns to its once proud status,” he said.

Mr Gowing said young farmers believe the role of the President of Ireland should be protected and plays a vital role.

The role needs to be maintained. The current holder of the office demonstrated true leadership in her actions. “Citizens of our state can be proud of how she has conducted herself in her role as President of Ireland.”
