Cyclists urged to wear helmets

NATIONAL Bike Week takes place from June 13 to June 20 and Acquired Brain Injury Ireland (ABI Ireland) is urging all cyclists to “Mind their Head” by wearing a helmet.

Barbara O’Connell, chief executive of ABI Ireland, said: “Cycling without a helmet is dangerous. Wearing a helmet is the most effective way of reducing head injuries during bicycle collisions.

“The chances of serious head trauma and lifelong disabilities can be reduced by between 65%-88% when a helmet is worn during a bicycle collision.”
