Irishman among missing

A MAN with Irish citizenship who was working on the United Nation’s (UN) peacekeeping mission in Haiti is missing, feared dead, after last week’s devastating earthquake, it has emerged.

Andrew Grene, a senior UN official, whose mother is from Cavan and who holds dual Irish and American citizenship, was in the UN’s headquarters, which collapsed in last Tuesday’s devastating earthquake.

Dozens of UN staff were killed, including the head of mission in the country.

Mr Grene’s mother comes from Co Cavan and his father was born in Dublin but Andrew was born in America.

His name is on a list of several people not accounted for.

Mr Grene’s twin brother, Gregory, has posted Andrew’s photograph online in a desperate effort to find out whether he is alive or dead.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed last night that it is liaising with US officials.
