FINE GAEL leader Enda Kenny publicly criticised the mayor of Limerick yesterday for his suggestion that out-of-work foreign workers should be deported.

Mr Kenny said Fine Gael’s Cllr Kevin Kiely should never have made the comment. “It was a most unfortunate statement. We value the input and the contribution, and the work ethic of our European Union colleagues – the same as they do when we go to visit their countries,” Mr Kenny said.

He plans to meet Mr Kiely on Monday to discuss the matter. But he stopped short of saying whether or not the mayor will face sanction.
