UP to 300 locals and onlookers gathered outside the Co Clare church to see the country’s biggest celebrity wedding this summer.

And Andrea and new hubby Brett Desmond were happy to let locals join in on their big day.

The service lasted around an hour and when the couple emerged they kissed for the waiting public before standing for photographs.

The couple were whisked out the gates but Andrea rolled down her window as she left, smiling and waving to those gathered.

Corrs fans Kate and Tommy McEnteggart, from the band’s hometown Dundalk, travelled to get a glimpse of the action.

They were holidaying in nearby Spanish Point and know Jim Corr, who is a friend of their son-in-law.

“This is fantastic to see it and the weather is wonderful,” Ms McEnteggart said. “Andrea is beautiful, absolutely gorgeous.”

Another fan, Caragh Vaughan, from Miltown Malbay, said she came up to watch the rehearsal ceremony last night. “She was beautiful,” Ms Vaughan said. “They had umbrellas coming out of the church but she made them put them down and she waved to everybody and got into the car and thanked everyone for coming.”

In the local town, there was some disappointment that there wasn’t more of a spin-off for the town from the large guest attendance.

Local publican Cathal O’Loughlin said: “We knew about last Christmas that they were thinking about getting married here but it was only last week that we found out for sure. It is great for the town but we expected a bigger spin-off for the area. The guests were brought in by minibuses so they didn’t really get a chance to come in to the town to visit the pubs.”

However, another pub did have some wedding guests on Thursday night and yesterday morning.

Landlord Mickey Wilson said: “We had a few all right. A lot of the guests are staying until Sunday and Monday, so we hope some of them will come back to see us again before they go back.”

After all the wedding guests had left, up to a 100 people who had gathered outside the church, helped themselves to pieces of the floral decorations which adorned the church.

One woman said: “I saw girls coming out with flowers in their hands and so I went in and there was no one to stop us taking a few. It is nice now that I can say I have flowers from Andrea Corr’s wedding.”
